Hiatus….

Yep, I haven’t posted in a while because I’m on a self imposed hiatus. Why? Oh, it’s that whole New Year’s resolution thing. I’m re-evaluating my current path. Is this the way that I really want to go, should I be do something differently, what is my true purpose…..So excuse my absence while I continue to do a little more soul searching!

Fitz & Floyd Santa

Fitz & Floyd Santa

This is another item I brought home from Bunco last Friday. It was part of our annual Christmas gift exchange. Isn’t he just darling? You can store candies in his stocking or open him up and hide even more….

Sparkly Holiday Ornament collection

Sparkly Holiday Ornament collection

Sparkly Holiday Ornament collection

I’m a little late in transforming my mantle into a Christmas extravaganza but one corner is starting to get into the holiday spirit. I’m so excited to show off these gorgeous ornaments. The vase is filled with my Bunco Christmas gift exchange and the 2009 Bloggers Ornament Exchange.

The gorgeous green ornament and the little presents (which are actually place card holders) were won at the Bunco Christmas Gift Exchange which I actually stole from my Bunco sister, Christie (sorry girl, but it just looks so awesome on my mantle!). The darling oversized silver ornament was from Alexis of  Jac o’lyn Murphy (check out how creative this gal is!).  With 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat, I felt it would be safer here than on the tree. Our cat  just loves to play “bat the ornament” and will even climb the Christmas tree to play with them all! Alexis also included a darling handmade card that just made my heart melt. Thanks Alexis!!

The super cute ornament on the right, “Joy to the World” was the Bunco prize that I won in a roll off. Phew, was I lucky or what!! I will always treasure it as it reminds me of the diversity of our Bunco group.

I do believe I”m finally getting in the holiday spirit. It is just so hard without snow (the hazards of being a Canadian transplant in North Texas).

Jelly Roll Rag Quilt

I fell in love with the chocolate brown and pastel colors used in the Sultry fabric collection designed by Basic Grey for Moda. I have been hoarding this fabric for quite a while. Why? Because it was just too pretty to cut into it. Sad I know!!

I purchased not one but two jelly rolls because I knew I wanted to make a “strip” quilt of some kind but had no idea what kind yet. Spoken like a true quilter who has an embarrassing amount of fabric stashed around the house! Whilst surfing the web, I tripped across a wonderful tutorial on the blog, Make Life Sweet. The talented Sweetwater gals shared the “easiest thing to do with a jelly roll” and when pressed for time the “easy button” is always a good idea! The only think I did a little differently is that I did NOT bind my quilt but double stitched the outside edge (with a 1/2″ seam allowance) and clipped the outside edges too.  I love the way the edges are really soft and fluffy!

I love the way it turned out. It looks just as lovely from the the front as it does on the back. It could do with a few more wash/dry cycles to make it more “fluffy-raggy” so it will only get better with age.  I handed it off to my mom when we met up with them in Cancun a few weeks ago and she has put it to good use. It has been very cold in the Great White North (like minus 40 with the wind chill !!!). Her only complaint is that she wishes it was just a little larger which means I must buy more fabric to make her another! ;-)

2009 Blogger Ornament Exchange (check)

Ok, I just got the ornament in the mail today & yep, today was the deadline (the absolute last day to mail according to the the “let’s play” rules). I was so tickled with how cute the little “cone funnel” I created using Laura Burch fabric , red felt and satin cord turned out. It would be perfect to hang on the tree and fill with nuts, candies or a wee present!! I took a lovely picture or so I thought (my CF card was NOT in the camera) so that’s why you have no picture to ogle! Gosh darn it. I filled it with some samples from Mi Spa so it would smell pretty when Alexis opens the package and of course I couldn’t resist throwing in a little bit of Texas too ( a fused glass pendant with a Texas shaped copper inclusion). Maybe, Alexis of Jac o’lyn Murphy will be kind enough to snap a picture when she receives it! (hint! hint! Alexis)
