We surprised the kids with a little road trip out of the Big D for their last day of summer vacation. Our first stop in East Texas was in Canton at the Dairy Palace for one of the best shakes you will ever taste. Why? Because they only use Blue Bell ice cream and whole milk. John’s fave is strawberry while mine is chocolate!!!

I would have taken a picture of the kiddos and their ice cream but they literally inhaled it!
Our next stop was at a local private lake where we could get out and stretch and enjoy the hot Texas sunshine and magnificent view! Blake was wishing that we had told him to bring his fishing gear. His nick name is “Little Bass Boy” because he loves to fish for you…well, as you probably already guessed-bass!

Brittney was checking out the vegetation around the lake. She loves checking out all the different kinds of flowers and plants wherever we go!
One of the best things about road trips in East Texas are the road side fruit & vegetable markets/stands. We just had to stop and pick up some fresh picked peaches and okra! There is nothing like having sweet peach juice dribble down your chin. Yummo!

Plus, the kids were enthralled by the raw honey with the comb still in the jar. As a kid, I lived by a few bee farmers and was spoiled because I would only eat honey if it came on the comb! Doesn’t it look delicious…

While I can’t believe the kids are back in school today and the house is so quiet, I’m glad we made the most of our last day of summer vacation by taking a road trip and making memories!

I miss that part of the country! I love fishing too! Yes, Yes, Yes to ice-cream, peaches and okra.
